WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SEASON OUTLOOK

2007 Season

After a 13-30 record in the first year under Coach Aschenbrenner, the Lady Dogs turned things around quickly with a 35-20 record last year and their first trip ever to a regional final four. With Melanie Walker the only returning player in 2006, the Dogs had to rely heavily on the incoming freshman. Melanie provided great leadership along with co-captain, setter Danielle Deeke. Danielle will provide leadership to this year’s squad as well. Things should continue to improve with seven returning players. Six of the seven returnees had significant playing time last year with the exception of setter/defensive specialist Jade Lienberger who was sidelined last year with a torn ACL. Jade is eager to get back on the court and will contribute with her hustle and “never say die” attitude. All conference selection Chelsea Meyer will provide power and blocking out of the middle. Outside hitters Jennifer Serino and Kat Jeffers will provide a solid defense and aid in our powerful outside and right side attacks. Sharing the setting and leadership duties will be Cortney Jones who led the team in assists last year. Libero, Gabbie Brocarrdo, who was second in the nation with digs per game, will provide the defense that exemplifies Bulldog volleyball.

This year’s recruiting class will have an immediate impact and raise the level of play for the Lady Dogs.

Britni Prusa  - Effingham High School - She is a great defensive player and should step right in as an on-court leader competing for the libero position.

Jamie Nizzia - Pekin High School – She has a very good arm swing and will add to our attack in both the middle and right-side positions. Jamie was selected Second team all Area in Peoria.

Nicki Dawdy – Winchester High School – She is a very smart and quick setter and runs the offense well. Nicki made First Team All Area by the Jacksonville Journal Courier.

Kaylee Day – Winchester High School – At 6’2” she will provide a big block from both the outside and right side position.

Jenny Carr – Chatham High School – She has tremendous athletic ability and will be a force from the outside and right-side positions. Jenny was selected to the CS8 All Area Team.

Allie Schlosser – Lutheran High School – She is a very aggressive player and will be an addition to our outside attack.

Kellie Negangard – Buffalo Tri-City – She is a very quick setter and a great hustler, helping in our defensive scheme.
