8th Annual Bulldog Baseball Golf Outing
October 13, 2007 - Edgewood Golf Course
Auburn, Illinois

Sixth Annual Outing
The 05’ Golf Outing was a great time had by all. The sixth annual event took place on October 8 and was held once again at the wonderful Edgewood Golf Course. The day went very well; although it was a bit cool in the morning, everyone enjoyed the beautiful day and the tasty food. The event saw a little bit of a change as the morning and afternoon flights somewhat balanced out as compared to years past. The 188 or so golfers all received a complimentary official Bulldog Booster t-shirt, breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner, awesome door prizes, & a variety of course competitions. We appreciate the 150 or so sponsors who advertised with us and we encourage all readers and supporters of the program to consider their business when you have a chance. The winning foursome at this year’s event was Tim Nicould, Ben Call, Pat Phalen and Tommy Bychowski. The winners received a round of golf in Peoria Illinois at the beautiful Coyote Creek golf club and an official team pullover. Rick and Kathy Allison once again donated the round of golf. We also give a huge Thanks to our Corporate Sponsors Havana State Bank and Club 54. Lastly, on behalf of our entire program we extend our gratitude to our families, friends, volunteers and loyal supporters for everything they do for our program. Without all the backers, alumni, friends and parents we could not put on an event the way we do. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in 06’.

The third annual SCI summer baseball camp took place at Lanphier Baseball Park from June 13th to the 17th. The five day events went off without a hitch despite the constant fear of old Mother Nature. The week-long event was absolutely incredible. We had an excellent coaching staff that has grown to an impressive number of 40 area high school and college coaches. A huge thanks goes out to the coaching and support staff that handled this impressive group. The camp saw their numbers jump from 160 to a whopping 244 future all stars. Each day had a little different spin to it as we touched on every aspect to the game of baseball over the course of the week. The provided lunches seem to be a hit, with the pizza taking camp favorite. A sincere thank you goes out to the park district staff and the entire Torricelli family for their assistance in the daily activities. As the popularity grows in our camps we will make a few adjustments to accommodate the growing demands. We look forward to seeing all of the campers and any future players.

The first annual baseball team dugout club party took place February 16th at the beautiful Stella Blue Restaurant. An Estimated 200 people took part in the event. A huge thanks goes out to former SCI assistant coach Vic Lanzotti and his business partner Chris Hanken for the delicious food and wonderful accommodations that they provided. The large group of supporters enjoyed watching the U of I take on Penn State and tasting the spread of food that was provided, not to mention having a few adult beverages along the way. The crowd of people was overwhelming, we are confident that everyone had a great time and we look forward to next year’s event. It will be hard to top the ’05 festivities. On behalf of the coaches, players, and support staff of SCI baseball we would like to say thank you for all of your generous support.  GO DOGS! - Click here for 2007 Dugout Party info.

SCI Baseball launched a new initiative this winter. The program formed the first ever central Illinois baseball coaches association. The association is a huge success in numbers. We currently have 80 active members in the association with 55 of them in average attendance at our monthly meetings. The CIBCA is a unique type of clinic. The set up is in the form of monthly speakers starting in November and going until February. The November speakers featured Dan Callahan and Ken Henderson from SIU Carbondale, the December speakers were the staff from the University of Illinois, Dan Hartleb, Eric Snider and Ken Westray. Our January trio showcased Jim Brownlee from Illinois State University, Mike Neal from Blackburn College and Tim Torricelli former manager in the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers organization. Our prestigious guest for the month of February are colleagues Tom Mcdevitt , former head coach at Eastern Illinois University and professional scout and “Itchy “Jones long time head coach at Southern Illinois and the University of Illinois. Topics blanketed every aspect of the game ranging from technique to drills to strategies and philosophies. The informal atmosphere where you could get something to eat and drink and visit before and after each speaker seemed to be a comfortable setting for our members to interact with one another and talk about the game of baseball.

Advanced Winter Hitting Camp - December 27-29, 2007
Players Ages 13-18

Winter Hitting Camp - January 19-21, 2008
Players Ages 7-12

This Holiday season the baseball program spent part of their time off putting on a series of advanced and youth hitting camps .The two camps were held in the recently acquired indoor hitting facility. The first camp took place between Christmas and new years and was geared for junior high and high school aged kids. We had a really nice turn out as we worked with 50 local and area players. The second session of our camps took place over the Martin Luther King holiday and this camp was focused on the youth ages of 7 to 12 years old. The youth camp was a big success as the numbers indicated. The morning group tallied 60 youngsters while the afternoon session hosted 54 up and coming stars to total 114.The overall total for the 6 days came out to be 164. We are very thankful to all of the young men who participated in our camps. A big thanks also goes out to the area coaches who helped out this year. I would also like to thank my staff of instructors that took their time to make the camps happen, coaches Jim Torricelli, Mike Fitzgerald, Tim Torricelli Jeremy Cook, Jaime Stash, Mark Hale, Brett Troemper, Tim Elliott, Jim Steinwart, Bill Clayton and P. J. Finigan. Finally I would also like to show my gratitude for all of the hard work that my family put in to make the camp run as smoothly as it did. Without the help of my mother Kathryn Torricelli, my sister in law Mary Torricelli and my brother in law Joe Bartletti we would not be able to do what we do.

This three-day camp is for players ages 14– 18 and directed by Steve Torricelli and his staff along with coaches throughout central Illinois. Players will be given the opportunity to play with individuals of their same age and skill level.
Each day will include intensive workout sessions, drill work, and games.  Players will be assessed on their foot speed, arm strength, power, velocity, and ability to hit. College coaches and professional scouts are invited to the three day event to assess the skill levels of all the campers. This camp will allow the players a view of what its like to play baseball at the college or professional level.
